Over the summer, the library was able to finish reclassifying all the books in the Dewey Decimal classification to the Library of Congress Classification. The Dewey system was used on books purchased prior to 1989.
This project also involved shifting almost every book in the library to make room for the older books. This New Map of the Libraryshould help you find your way around!
New technology in study rooms.
Study Room RL 106 now has a MediaScape installation. This allows students to use up to 6 laptops comfortably in one study room, and it provides 2 independent screens for the students to work with simultaneously.
In Study Room RL 107, the SmartBoard has been replaced by an 80" touch screen television screen that can be connected to a laptop.
Reference services and research help move to librarians' offices.
The Reference Desk on the first floor of the library is gone. Academic libraries are moving to a new model of service. If one of your students needs a librarian, they should just ask for one at the Information Desk.
he librarian "on call" will come and take you to their office, and help you there. This new model affords our users greater privacy, away from all the "noise" in the lobby.
We ask for your help in adjusting to this new model by encouraging your students to ask for a librarian if they need help with their research. We are especially concerned that reluctant students, who need help, will hesitate to ask. We have had very positive feedback from students who have used this so far!
You may also refer students directly to your librarian liaison.
New way to ask for interlibrary loan articles from inside databases.
If you are searching a database, and the article you need is only available using Interlibrary Loan, you will notice a different path when you check for full text.
This was a PASSHE libraries system-wide decision.
Upgrades to the system will happen over the winter break. If you need help or have comments, just contact your librarian liaison.
Librarians redistribute duties and responsibilities.
Liaison work is still our primary responsibility. But our internal responsibilities are updated, beginning this semester:

Bob Flatley, Electronic Resources, moved to RL 25-A
Bruce Gottschall, Collection Development and Library Systems, RL 19
R. Bruce Jensen, Emerging Technologies, moved to RL 25-C
