Promoting and Improving Diversity and Inclusion in the Curriculum Materials Center(CMC) at East Stroudsburg University Pre-recorded I am the liaison librarian for the ESU Education Department. After a large weeding project, and a few semesters of teaching education majors how to use the childrne's collection for lesson planning purposes, I realized that the collection was sorely lacking in a lot of new and relevant titles on topics students were searching for. Some of the topics included mindfulness and inclusion. During this presentation I will talk about how I use instructional periods with education majors to both demonstrate how to use the library catalog, but also to gather information about which topics students wish to find in the collection. I will also talk about how I've made a highly visible permanent display of diversity and inclusion titles outside the CMC space and how my efforts have increased circulation of children's titles in the past 3 years. |
Going back to the beginning to move forward: Alma and Resource Management at WCU Live presentation WCU has seen many changes in the past few years – retirements, reconfiguration of units, and new faculty and staff hires. These changes have created the need to examine our Tech Services practices and their relationship to Alma. Both new and experienced Alma users felt the need to “start from scratch” as the consensus was that, while we could perform specific tasks, we did not have an overall understanding of Alma as a system and how we should or could be using it. This presentation will discuss the steps we have taken to address these issues and where we are now in training, the development of our new Resources Management team, and the documenting of local practices. |

Our Nineteenth Century Summer: Transcribing the William Darlington letters at West Chester University Pre-recorded with Live Q&A After the abrupt closure of our library this spring, Special Collections launched a team-wide transcription project. The common purpose of the group, and the fascinating content of botanist William Darlington's letterbooks, united students, library staff members, and community volunteers in a way we rarely witness when we work together onsite. This presentation outlines the project we undertook and explores how the community-based discussions surrounding it have helped us anticipate the digital collection's eventual appeal. The presentation will detail: the practices we followed, the lessons we learned, the next steps in the project, and the highlights from more than 450 transcribed letters to date. |
