ENV 100 - Intro to Environmental Science: Interlibrary Loan

This guide is maintained to accompany ENV 100


The Interlibrary Loan Office is RL 101-B

Hours:  Monday through Friday 8 am to 6 pm

Interlibrary Loan (ILL), or borrowing books and articles from other libraries, is provided through the service called ILLIAD 

ILLIAD gives you access to millions of titles for both books and articles from across the world through the WorldCat database of library holdings.  You must establish a seperate account to use the service.

Who can use this service

Students and employees of KU; community patrons and patrons from other universities need to use these services at their public or academic library


Patrons are limited to 5 requests per day.

 Materials borrowed from other libraries cannot be placed on Reserve or used for any purpose other than your individual research.


Most Libraries will not send:

·        Newly published material

·        Textbooks

·        Theses and dissertations

·        Old, rare or valuable material

·        Reference and genealogical material

·        Audio visual and other non-print media

·        Material in high demand at the lending library;

·       Curriculum materials

·        Scripts, screen plays, libretti, and scores

·        Multi-volume sets


·        Entire issues of periodicals.

We will not request:

·        Textbooks

·        Material owned by the Rohrbach Library

·        Multiple copies of a title or article

·        Titles not yet published

·        Material owned by the Rohrbach Library

·        Titles not yet published


 Usually within several days; difficult items can be 2 to 4 weeks.

 Pick  up at the Information Commons Desk on the First Floor.

 Newer articles can be received in email within 2 or 3 days

 Articles are in digital format and delivered to you through email.

Loan period:

Determined by the lending library – usually 3 to 5 weeks.  Most items cannot be renewed, but ask if you need it.

Please return the items by the due date. Privileges  will be suspended for those who repeatedly fail to pick up requested interlibrary loan material or who fail to return materials in a timely fashion.

The article is yours to keep.
