Coronavirus emergency - resources for students & faculty: Home

This is a guide to help students and faculty navigate the changes created by the coronavirus emergency during the last half of the Spring 2020 semester.

Please Note:

Chat service will be offline for Thanksgiving Recess (November 22-28).

Questions submitted offline will be answered when classes resume on Monday, November 30th.

Current Library Services

Librarians  will be available online to answer questions and help with research through Chat, Text, Email and By-Appointment.

  • CHAT will be open from 10:00 to 4:30 Monday through Thursday; and 10:00 to 3:00 on Friday.
  • TEXT will be available anytime.  A librarian will get back to you in no later than 24 hours
  • EMAIL addresses are available through the LIAISON LIST, 
  • MAKE AN APPOINTMENT to work with a librarian "live" online (ZOOM, Skype) or over the phone.

 Library Re-Opening Plan for Fall 2020

as of August 3, 2020

for services and policies of the KU Writing Center and the Student Success Center (formerly CASA) please see their respective websites.


▪ ILL/Document Delivery will continue.  Books may be picked up at the Main Desk.

▪ STEAMworks (makerspace) will be by appointment only. 

▪ Research Services will be virtual, through Zoom, Chat, Skype, or appointment

▪ Information Literacy Instruction will continue in RL 29 with a limit of 21 participants

▪ Community patrons, hose who are not students or employees of KU, cannot use the building, but can use virtual services.

▪ Physical library materials, such as books, reserves, magazines, and equipment will be quarantined for 3 days after each use.

Physical Facility: 

  • Book Stacks will be open and accessible.
  • The Coffee Shop will be closed.
  • Any print resource used will be quarantined for 3 days after each use. 
  • Study Rooms will be closed. 
  • Capacity will be based on 50% where furniture has been removed from the library to promote social distancing..
  • Signage will be placed to indicate flow of traffic and social distancing guidelines. 
  • Hours will remain the same:
    • Sunday 2pm-Midnight
    • Monday-Thursday 7am-Midnight 
    • Friday 7am-5pm 
    • Saturday 9am-5pm

Face Mask Policy

 Rohrbach Library Face Mask Policy 

1. The library follows campus policy regarding face masks, therefore, students are required to wear face masks when in the library. Students who have received an accommodation to not wear a mask should inform a staff member of the accommodation if asked.

2. Employees are required to wear a mask while at the workplace, unless they are secluded and alone. 

3. Anyone who does not comply, will be asked to please leave the library. 

4. If the patron refuses to comply by wearing a face mask, they will be referred to the Library Director and/or Public Safety.,
