Borrow and Renew

Borrowing from the library for undergrads

Undergraduate Students

Print materials:  Standard borrowing period:  28 days with a single 28 day renewal.  At the end of the 56 days, the items need to be returned to the library.  Kits and textbooks from the Curriculum Materials Center circulate for one week.

Non-print materials, including DVDs, CDs, and Kits from Curriculum Materials: 1 week with one one-week renewal.

Equipment such as cameras, camcorders, calculators, etc.: 7 days with no renewals

Number of items that can be charged out at any time: 50

Books on Interlibrary Library Loan (ILL):  The borrowing period is determined by the library that owns the book.  It is important to return items on time because the material does not belong to the KU Library.  Click here to go to the Interlibrary Loan page. Fees for lost Interlibrary Loan books are determined by the library that owned the book.

Overdue Fines: None. If items are not returned thirty days after the Due Date, then you will receive a notice listing the replacement fee. A Library Hold will also be placed on your record until the items are returned. This means you cannot register for classes, receive grades, receive transcripts, or your diploma. When all the items are returned, your records are released and then you don't owe anything.

7 Day Loan Laptops: There is a late fee of $10.00 per day charged if a laptop is not returned on time.

Fees for lost items: Standard fee for type of item borrowed, for example: lost book fee is $50.00.
