Interlibrary Loan

Request books & articles not owned by Rohrbach Library

What can I request?

Material which may be requested:

Any type of material may be requested from another library, but the lending library will determine in each case whether or not to provide a particular item.

Most libraries typically cannot lend the following types of materials:

  • Curriculum material, including textbooks.

  • Newly published material.

  • Old, rare or valuable material.

  • Reference and genealogical material.

  • Audio-visual materials - DVD, Blu-ray, VHS, video games, and sound recordings.

  • Entire issues of periodicals.

  • Material in high demand.

  • Scripts, screen plays, libretti, and scores.

  • Multi-volume sets.

Interlibrary Loan generally cannot obtain the following types of materials:

  • Textbooks. If you are having trouble obtaining your textbooks, you may also consult with your professor regarding Open Educational Resources (OER) for use in class.

  • eBooks or streaming audio/video (all e-media is currently ineligible for Interlibrary Loan). If you would like to request the purchase of an e-book for the library's collection, you can make a request here.

  • Material already owned by Rohrbach library.

  • Multiple copies of a title or article.

  • Unpublished or not-yet-published Items.

  • New items.  Most materials less than two years old are considered "New" and cannot be loaned or borrowed.

  • Kindles, e-Readers, and other tablet devices. If you require the use of a Kindle, many are available for loan from Rohrbach Library's Circulation department. Click here to suggest Kindle titles for library purchase.

  • Items in defunct formats. The library does not own the technology required to view or utilize film or audio reels. If you have access to the available technology elsewhere, please add this information to your request and we will review it.

  • Psychological testing tools. These materials are unavailable through Interlibrary Loan. Test forms/booklets, answer sheets, and the scoring key can only be purchased through publishers. If you are a student, contact your professor about access to a copy of the testing materials required for your class or research.

  • Legal materials and research materials pertaining to the law as it is practiced and interpreted. These items have a high rate of non-return and are extremely expensive to replace. For this reason, we will no longer request legal/law materials through Interlibrary Loan.
