Hip Hop Beyond Beats and Rhymes
HIP HOP: BEYOND BEATS AND RHYMES provides a riveting examination of manhood, sexism, and homophobia in hip-hop culture. Director Byron Hurt, former star college quarterback, long-time hip-hop fan, and gender violence prevention educator, conceived the documentary as a "loving critique" of a number of disturbing trends in the world of rap music. He pays tribute to hip-hop while challenging the rap music industry to take responsibility for glamorising destructive, deeply conservative stereotypes of manhood.
The documentary features revealing interviews about masculinity and sexism with rappers such as Mos Def, Fat Joe, Chuck D, Jadakiss, and Busta Rhymes, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, and cultural commentators such as Michael Eric Dyson and Beverly Guy-Shetfall. Critically acclaimed for its fearless engagement with issues of race, gender violence, and the corporate exploitation of youth culture.
HIp Hop Nutcracker
A holiday mash-up for the whole family, this contemporary dance spectacle is a re-mixed and re-imagined version of the classic, smashing hip hop dance and Tchaikovksy’s timeless music together into a heart-stirring and inspirational holiday event. The Hip Hop Nutcracker is brought to life by a powerhouse cast of a dozen all-star dancers, a DJ, a violinist, and MC Kurtis Blow, one of hip hop’s founding fathers, who opens the show with a short set. Just like the original, Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker Prince go on a dream adventure battling a gang of mice, visiting the land of sweets and learning the lessons of the holiday season, but mergered with traditional 19th Century Germany to the vibrant, diverse sights and sounds of contemporary New York City.
Business As Usual: The Exploitation Of Hip Hop
'Business as Usual' is a feature length documentary that asks the questions: Has Hip-Hop been exploited for economic gain, to the detriment of the masses of urban youth who embrace it? Who's really making the money, controlling the systems and influencing the youth?
History and Concept of Hip-Hop Dance
This exciting documentary explores the history and scope of the Hip-Hop dance style. The movement is also studied as a global marketing phenomenon: despite its popularity, Hip-Hop struggles to define its historical lineage, concept, origins, aesthetics, and generational acceptance. This video illuminates these issues by featuring opinions from Hip-Hop dance pioneers, such as the renowned Rennie Harris. History and Concept of Hip-Hop Dance: The Street Culture That Became a Global Expression delves into the world-renowned dance style. Discover how it was first introduced to mainstream America in the early 1970s as breakdancing (or b-boying); learn how Hip-Hop has evolved and where it’s headed.
Hamilton: One Shot to Broadway
