Book Tasting at Kutztown University

Book tasting is a wonderful way to engage students or readers in library materials. This guide will showcase several of the book tastings we do at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.

Book Tasting with Native American books

A Native American Book Tasting

As a final project for her Native American Writing and Rhetoric course, KU student Anna W decided to encourage others to learn about Native Americans through a book tasting. She worked with KU's Education Librarian to pull children's literature that would feature quality books about and preferably by Native Americans. The categories were:

  • Biographies
  • Fiction--novels
  • Fiction--picture books
  • Culture
  • School & Society
  • Historical Perspectives
  • Cultural Tales & Folklore

Anna provided a brochure and a feedback form for participants, and the Education Librarian provided a list of online resources about selecting and evaluating Native American children's literature.
