Legal access to feature films for educational use

2017: Swank Digital campus content is no longer viewable in the Safari browser, please use Chrome or Firefox for viewing Swank content.

Swank Digital Campus requires the Google Widevine (an integrated component of Chrome) for playback on a laptop or desktop computer. It is recommended that desktop users view films in Chrome. To access Swank Digital Campus on a mobile device, install the Swank Media Player App.

Firefox, IE, and Edge users can download Google''s Widevine Media Optimizer plugin.  You should be presented with the option to download the plugin when accessing the Swank Digital Campus platform.  If you are having problems installing the plugin, try downloading the plugins available through the links at http://www.widevine.com/download/videooptimizer.

Here is how the process works:

1. Search the Swank Catalog to see if the feature film you want is available.

2. Use this form to request that a film be made available in KU's Swank portal.

3. Share the direct link (once licensed) with students or embed the film in D2L.

Note: Once licensed, activation may take up to ten business days.

Swank Digital Campus

Swank Digital Campus provides streaming access to feature films. These films may only be viewed through the Swank Digital Campus platform or embedded in D2L. Films may be shown in class or assigned to enrolled students to view outside of class.  The films do not have public performance rights.

Important Information

Swank uses Google's Widevine Video Optimizer.  It is pre-installed in Chrome.  However you will be asked to download the Widevine Video Optimizer if using IE, Firefox, or Safari.  Simply download the plugin and you should be ready to view.  You may need to restart your browser.
